HEADLINE

When your plants are not challenged by disease, they can divert more energy into yield. HEADLINE® is an innovative, broad-spectrum fungicide that delivers a high level of disease control. It provides superior protection of diseases in pulse crops.

How HEADLINE works

Unprecedented control of key disease

HEADLINE binds tightly to the waxy cuticle when applied to the leaf’s upper surface. It moves through the leaf to control disease on the lower surface of the leaf. This unique activity enables HEADLINE to protect both sides of the leaf regardless of the side it is applied to, delivering dual-sided protection.

Once applied, HEADLINE stops spore germination, preventing spores from infecting plant tissue. And by interfering with fungal cell respiration and the production of energy, HEADLINE causes fungi to stop growing and die.

HEADLINE is rainfast within an hour of application and improves harvestability by significantly reducing lodging caused by disease infestation in both lentils and peas.

Improved growth efficiency

By controlling foliar diseases and thus protecting the plant’s leaves, improved growth efficiency can be realized. This protection allows for more carbon, or stored energy, to be used for plant growth and yield generation rather than being lost through respiration. Increased plant growth efficiency also means improved nitrogen utilization and better use of available nitrogen.

Increased stress tolerance

While controlling disease also gives the plant increased stress tolerance, researchers have also monitored plant health effects related to the tolerance of drought, effects of heat and cold stresses. They’ve observed that plants treated with HEADLINE produce less ethylene, the plant’s stress hormone, which induces premature ripening. A reduction in ethylene production means plants are more resilient to stress, stay greener longer, contributing to maximum yield potential.

When to apply HEADLINE

General considerations

Apply a second time 10 to 14 days later if disease persists or if weather conditions are favourable for disease development.

Field peas

To control Mycosphaerella blight, apply HEADLINE at the beginning of flowering or when 10% of the
lower canopy is infected with disease. For powdery mildew, apply a single application prior to the onset
of disease or as soon as powdery mildew is detected.

Lentils

Make the first application at row closure or at first flower, whichever comes first.

Cereals

To maximize yield in cereals, the optimum time to apply is immediately at or after flag leaf has fully unrolled.

How much HEADLINE to apply

HEADLINE is formulated as a 250 g/L emulsifiable concentrate (EC) that mixes quickly in the spray tank, uniformly dispersing the active ingredient throughout the spray solution.

Peas / Lentils

Each 6.5 L jug of HEADLINE contains enough fungicide to treat approximately 40 acres.

Cereals

Each 6.5 L jug of HEADLINE contains enough fungicide to treat approximately 40 – 55 acres.

Water volume

Apply HEADLINE with a minimum 10 imperial gallons of water per acre (110/ha) by ground or 4.45 imperial gallons of water per acre (50L/ha) by air.
