How it works
- ODYSSEY controls weeds growing at the time of application.
- Remains active in the soil to control multiple flushes of shallow-germinating weeds – right up to crop flowering.
When to apply
ODYSSEY has a wide window of application so you can control early-emerging weeds before they affect yield.
| Crop or weed type | Stage |
|---|
| Clearfield canola | 2 to 6 leaf stage |
| Clearfield lentils | 1 to 9 node stage |
| Clearfield XCEED | 2 to 6 leaf stage |
| Peas | 1 to 6 true-leaf stage |
| Broadleaf weeds | Cotyledon to 4- leaf stage |
| Grassy weeds | 1 to 4 true-leaf stage (6 total leaves, including 2 tillers) |
How much to apply
- Each case of ODYSSEY contains enough herbicide to treat 40 acres (16.2 hectares).
- ODYSSEY is packaged in convenient water soluble Solu Pouches so you don't have to measure.
- The surfactant MERGE® is required for herbicide activity and is available separately from your retailer.
- Always ensure that the rate of MERGE is 0.5 L/100 L of spray solution (0.5% spray solution) for optimal performance.
- Water Volume – Apply at 10 gallons of spray solution per acre (100 L/ha).
- Registered for ground application only.
For example
| Acres | Water Required | Merge Required | Odyssey Required |
|---|
| 40 acres | 10 imp. gallons/acre | 1 x 8.1 L jug | 8 x 5 acre pouches |
Mixing instructions
- Use a 50 mesh (or coarser) filter screen. Fill tank with half to three-quarters full with required amount of water.
- Turn on the agitation.
- Add the required amount of ODYSSEY.
- Agitate for 10 minutes to dissolve the herbicide.
- After the herbicide has dissolved, continue agitation and, if using, add Lontrel for control of Canada thistle.
- Continue agitation and add the required amount of surfactant (MERGE).
- Fill tank with the remainder of the water.
- Use proper label rates of ODYSSEY and MERGE. Reduced rates will impact product performance.
Application tips
- To maximize herbicide performance, apply ODYSSEY in warm weather to weeds that are actively growing.
- Do not apply ODYSSEY if freezing temperatures are forecast or immediately after a frost or unseasonably cold weather. Temperatures near freezing (below 5ºC) will prevent optimum herbicide performance, as the weeds are not actively growing.
- ODYSSEY should be applied early to maximize yield and protect your crop from multiple flushes of later-germinating weeds.
- ODYSSEY is rainfast 3 hours after application.
- The use of pre-seeding tillage or a pre-seeding burn-off helps in the establishment and production of a lentil crop.

Research Information – With the increase in minimum tillage, the weed spectrum is changing. Weeds such as quackgrass, round-leaved mallow and various winter annuals are becoming more common. BASF will continue to research these and other new, emerging types of weeds.

In the event of crop failure during the year of application, only field peas, Clearfield canola, Clearfield lentils or Clearfield XCEED should be grown. PMRA suggests a field bioassay (a test strip grown to maturity) be conducted the year before growing any crop other than those listed above.
What growers are saying
Here's what growers across the West are saying about ODYSSEY and how it works for them in Clearfield canola.
"For the last 3 years we’ve only grown Clearfield canola. ODYSSEY gives us good, broad-based weed control, especially on wild oats and millet. It handles the multiple flushing weeds as well."
Tony Funk
Hague, SK
"In Clearfield canola, ODYSSEY gives us longer-term control of problem weeds like cleavers, chickweed and buckwheat, as well as second or third flushes of weeds like stinkweed."
Warren Kaeding
Churchbridge, SK
"The strength of Clearfield is that the weed control is second to none in only one pass. ODYSSEY controls the broadleaf weeds as well as cleavers, mustard and stinkweed. It also gets the second flushes."
Glen Leggott
Lanigan, SK
"I went to the Clearfield system because I felt the canola varieties were very strong and because I like the way ODYSSEY fits into our herbicide rotation. ODYSSEY gets all my weeds, including multiple flushing weeds, in just one pass and without the hassle of tank-mixing."
Wade Annand
Codette, SK
"We’ve always had excellent results with ODYSSEY. It controls wild oats and our broadleaf weeds throughout the summer. Our Clearfield canola has the least amount of dockage, too. "
Richard Dimler
Grenfell, SK
"ODYSSEY takes care of all the weeds in my Clearfield canola – wild oats, wild millet, mustards and the broadleaf weeds, even the second flushes. I would never hesitate to use ODYSSEY."
Bob Petrie
Broadview, SK
"ODYSSEY works extremely well for me. It’s fairly broad spectrum and handles the second flush weeds."
George Heide
Boissevain, MB
"ODYSSEY controls the weeds all summer, right through to the fall, so that at harvest the stubble was still clean. It makes for an easier start next year."
Rob Livingston
Starbuck, MB
"ODYSSEY gives very good, one-shot coverage of my weeds, even those with second flushes. "
Murray B. Young
Manitou, MB
