How it works
- One component of ABSOLUTE controls weeds at the time of application.
- Remains active in the soil to control multiple flushes of shallow-germinating weeds – right up to crop flowering.
- Both components are absorbed by weed leaves at the time of application, altering the weed’s growth and killing it.
- ABSOLUTE begins to work on your weeds as soon as it has been applied.
When to apply
ABSOLUTE has a wide window of application, so you can control early-emerging weeds before they affect yield.
| Crop: | Clearfield canola: 2- to 6-leaf stage |
| Broadleaf weeds: | Cotyledon to 4-leaf stage |
| Grassy weeds: | 1- to 4-true-leaf stage (6 total leaves, including 2 tillers) |
How much to apply
- Each case of ABSOLUTE contains enough ODYSSEY® and Lontrel to treat 40 acres (16.2 hectares).
- The surfactant MERGE® is required for herbicide activity and is available separately from your retailer.
- The rate of MERGE* is 0.5 L/100 L of spray solution (0.5% spray solution) for optimal performance.
To treat 40 acres:
| Water | MERGE | ODYSSEY | Lontrel |
| 40.5 L/acre | 8.1 L jug | 8 x 5 acre pouches | 4 x 10 acre pouches |
Application tips
- To maximize performance, apply in warm weather to weeds that are actively growing.
- Canada thistle control may be severely reduced under cool or dry conditions.
- Do not apply if freezing temperatures are forecast or immediately after a frost or unseasonable cold weather.
- Temperatures below 5°C will prevent optimum performance.
- ABSOLUTE should be applied early to maximize yield and protect your crop from multiple flushes of later-germinating weeds.
- ABSOLUTE is rainfast 3 hours after application.
- Please note use on Clearfield XCEED will cause crop injury.
Mixing Instructions
- Fill tank three-quarters full
- Use 50 mesh (or coarser) filter screen
- Add ODYSSEY® herbicide, agitate for at least ten minutes to dissolve the herbicide
- After herbicide is dissolved, continue agitation and add the required amount of MERGE®
- If excess foaming occurs, a silicone anti-foaming agent (eg HALT) may be added
- Continue filling and add the Lontrel. Maintain agitation throughout the procedure

What growers are saying
Here's what growers are saying about ABSOLUTE and how it works for them in Clearfield canola.
"ABSOLUTE does what they say it does – gives me absolute control. All summer long it works on broadleaf and flushing weeds. I like the way it controls Canada thistle, stinkweed and wild oats, too."
Gerald York
Bonanza, AB
"I like using ABSOLUTE on my Clearfield canola. My biggest weed challenge is stork’s-bill so I go in early with ABSOLUTE. It’s a one-shot deal that can handle the second flushes. It works excellent for us."
Orest Yackimec
Beauvallon, AB
"I want cleaner fields so I use ABSOLUTE on my Clearfield canola. It was so dry this year that we were able to plant some of the larger sloughs. If I hadn’t used ABSOLUTE to control the sow thistle and the Canada thistle, I wouldn’t have had a crop there. As it was, this was probably the cleanest crop I’ve ever grown."
Ken Farkash
Vermillion, AB
"For the last 3 years we’ve only grown Clearfield canola. If we’ve got a Canada thistle problem, We can use ABSOLUTE. It handles the multiple flushing weeds as well."
Tony Funk
Hague, SK
"I wouldn’t say I have a thistle problem. I like to handle my weeds before they become a problem because I don’t believe in losing yield. ABSOLUTE gives me pretty much absolute control of my whole weed spectrum, including thistle."
Jerry Timmerman
Swan Lake, MB
"We get better thistle control with ABSOLUTE. It does a good job on the other weeds, too, like cleavers, chickweed and multiple flushing weeds."
Clayton Wareham
Minnedosa, MB
"If you’ve got a thistle problem, you’ve got to use ABSOLUTE. It’s a very economical way to control thistle in Clearfield canola."
George Sanders
Altamont, MB
